India's capabilities
for quality clinical research are enormous. Clinical Research
outsourcing (CRO) has just started expanding its root, still the
industry is worth 120 million dollars per year in India, and believe it,
it is growing fast. It is predicted that it will be worth 400 million
dollars in coming three years. Reason being European and American
companies knows that this service is available very cheaply in India.
India contributes
around 20 per cent of the global CROs revenues. It is calculated that it
is around 40 per cent cheaper to start
CROs
in India.
The compound annual
growth rates (studied and expected between 2002 to 2010) of Indian
clinical trials range from 40-60 per cent.
It is estimated that growth of Clinical research industry is
likely to surpass 20 billion US dollars by 2010.
Such a rapid acceleration of industry will create
huge opportunities for those who want to excel in this field. Right now
more than 80 companies are working in CR. Considering huge population
and patients, India have good opportunities for CR.
The growing demand will open 50,000 jobs in India and
2,50,000 jobs throughout the world among positions like clinical
operations, data management, medical and regulatory writing, pharmaco-vigilance,
quality assurance and control, management positions and etc. Further
Govt of India has also exempted service tax on
clinical trials which will further boost growth of the sector.
