basis of complex disorders like
schizophrenia, neurological
disorders, diabetes, asthma,
high altitude sickness,
infectious diseases etc. IGIB
undertakes design & synthesis of
nucleic acids and bioactive
peptides required for several
biomedical applications, to
understand their role in various
neurological diseases and
hypertension. Significant
achievement of IGIB in this area
is designing and synthesizing a
library of peptidomimics for
Angiotensin converting enzyme
(ACE) inhibitor. It’s also
working on Development of
Biochips for biomedical
applications and synthesis and
conformational studies of photo
responsive oligonucleotides. Its
comparative genomics & gene
expression profiling
programmes mainly involve
exploration and exploitation of
microbial wealth of India for
novel compounds and
bio-transformation process, and
establishing advanced facility
for safety evaluation of
genetically modified/engineered
drugs. Its Environmental
biotechnology group at IGIB
specializes in the areas of
Microbial Genomics and Treatment
of Industrial Effluents. It
works on
Asthma, Tuberculosis and Aspergillosis
and carries out work on
screening plant, microbial,
fungal and insect extracts for
evaluation of antibacterial,
anti-inflammatory and
anti-fungal activities. It has
signed MoU with several
institutes and company in India
and abroad to carry out
collaborative research. |
